"Learning through play is the Honeydew way!"
Honeydew School recently celebrated Hareli, one of Chhattisgarh's most cherished festivals, honouring farmers, agriculture, and the deep bond between our land and its people. True to the spirit of the festival, our little ones stepped into the shoes of farmers for the day, bringing the essence of rural Chhattisgarh right into the classroom.
Students arrived dressed in traditional farmer attire, complete with gamchas, dhotis, and turbans, transforming the school into a lively glimpse of village life. The costumes were a hit, with children proudly showing off their farmer look and enthusiastically getting into character for the day.
Adding to the charm of the celebration, students brought along farming tool cut-outs made from cardboard — sickles, ploughs, spades, and more — crafted with the help of parents and teachers. These handmade props not only added authenticity to the celebration but also gave children a hands-on understanding of the tools farmers use in their everyday work.
Through this vibrant celebration, students learned about the significance of Hareli as a festival of gratitude towards nature, farming, and the agricultural traditions that Chhattisgarh takes pride in. Teachers used the occasion to talk to children about where their food comes from and the hard work that goes into farming.
At Honeydew School, we believe festivals like Hareli are wonderful opportunities to connect children to their roots, culture, and the land that sustains us all. Seeing our students embrace this celebration with such enthusiasm and creativity was a proud moment for the entire school community.
